If you prefer open shelves in the kitchen, then get yourself a Billy bookcase and a Numerar countertop and make a kitchen island. Cover the back of the bookcase with beadboard and attach the countertop. You can also install hooks on the sides for extra storage.
Full area seating: Your kitchen island doesn’t only need to be for short stays at the counter. Several kitchen islands are as big as dining room tables and can accommodate larger parties to sit. For these islands consider using full benches with or without backing to allow the seated person more comfort. Full size chairs can be used and chairs can match the adjacent dining room table to uniform the space.
But the shape and the design are elements that always differ. What’s important for a kitchen island with seating is to be a perfect combination of functionality and versatility. This means it needs to have built-in storage spaces, to fit into the room properly, even when it’s expanded and to allow you to use for a variety of activities, such as prepping, having breakfast, working, etc.
Looking at this island one could easily mistake it for a modern sculpture. It’s simple and defined by clean lines and angles and it was custom designed for this particular space. You can tell that by the way it perfectly aligns with the oblique line of the window. The island was designed by Project A01 Architects for a residence in Freudorf, Austria.
